SEE UPDATE BELOW…
Marquette University claims not only to be a Catholic school itself but also to be so competent in that role that it can shepherd other area Catholic schools in their Catholic mission and practice. The university established its Institute for Catholic Leadership for this purpose. According to its website, “The Institute for Catholic Leadership applies our Catholic heritage to expand the vision and effectiveness of Catholic institutions by engaging leaders in personal and professional development.”
Among those leaders being personally and professionally developed under the tutelage of the Institute is Lyn Hildenbrand. Ms. Hildenbrand is President/CEO, St. Joseph Academy in Milwaukee, “a Catholic educational organization sponsored by the Felician Sisters.” (Marquette Institute for Catholic Leadership director Mr. Tom Kiely serves on the St. Joseph board of directors – see page 13 of the annual report). It was brought to our attention that Ms. Hildenbrand recently revealed via Facebook her full support for abortion and NARAL. (SEE BELOW)
Perhaps Ms. Hildenbrand doesn’t know that the Catholic Church regards abortion as gravely contrary to the moral law (i.e. murder) and that “formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life.” CCC 2272. Or perhaps she, like many, just doesn’t care. Either way, it would seem the application of our Catholic heritage to her personal and professional development via the Institute is missing the mark.
Ms. Hildebrand is free to believe, march and post as she likes. But educators in schools designated as “Catholic” who cannot muster a sincere respect for the Catholic faith ought to find another job ASAP, not only for the sake of the souls of their students, but for their own:
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” – Matthew 18:6
We thought St. Joseph Academy parents, donors and supporters would want to know.
UPDATE – Some suggest that this is unfair, Ms. Hildenbrand just got caught up in the anti-Trump fervor and found herself temporarily aligned with the Culture of Death. Sorry – her very publicly professed anti-Catholic, anti-family views go back to at least 2013, as illustrated below. Keep in mind, Ms. Hildenbrand was hired to serve as St. Joseph’s President and CEO in 2015. Is anyone vetting these people? Does anyone care who teaches our children? Does the Archdiocese of Milwaukee have a role in this? Can they do something about this? Will they?
